Manchester United are on the verge of completing their fourth major signing of the summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that negotiations with Royal Antwerp for goalkeeper Senne Lammens are at an advanced stage.
So far, United’s transfer activity has mainly bolstered their attack, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko all joining the squad. Youngster Diego Leon has also been added, though he is regarded as a long-term project rather than an immediate first-team option.
Now, attention has shifted to strengthening both the goalkeeping department and midfield. After stepping back from a potential move for Gianluigi Donnarumma due to his massive salary demands, United turned their focus to Lammens.
According to reports, personal terms with the 23-year-old Belgian have already been agreed, and discussions between United and Antwerp over a transfer fee in the region of €20m (£17m) are progressing well. Lammens was notably absent from Antwerp’s squad against Mechelen at the weekend, a clear indication that a move is imminent.
Interestingly, the Daily Mail revealed that Lammens had asked to feature one last time for Antwerp despite his impending transfer. However, the club opted against it to avoid any injury risk that could jeopardize the deal.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed:
“Manchester United are working hard to close the deal with Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens. The agreement with the player is already in place, and now the two clubs are negotiating to finalize the transfer today or tomorrow.”
Romano also hinted that this won’t be the last piece of business from United, as the club is planning multiple incomings and outgoings before the window shuts. Players such as Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund could still be moved on before deadline day.
