Excitement is building as Mexico City prepares to host part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and a special announcement has been made for box and suite holders at the iconic Azteca Stadium (also known as Estadio Banorte).
In a recent statement, the stadium confirmed that its private box and suite owners will receive free access to all five World Cup matches scheduled to take place at the venue, including the tournament opener. This decision follows an agreement with FIFA and honors long-standing contractual rights dating back nearly a century.
A Century-Old Clause
The 99-year agreement, originally established in 1966 to help fund the stadium’s construction, has long provided box holders with unique privileges. With renovations expanding the stadium to 90,000 seats, the Azteca now houses 12,500 individual box spaces, and this move ensures that owners can enjoy the matches in their private suites at no extra cost.
“We are pleased to announce that box and suite owners will be able to access and use their boxes/suites at no cost during the five matches to be held at the stadium,” said the Estadio Banorte press office. “To this end, the stadium has made a series of commitments and payments to FIFA.”
The announcement comes after a legal dispute in 2024 raised concerns that some owners might be barred from using their seats. With this resolution, the stadium ensures both tradition and modern convenience for VIP fans.
Registration and Ticketing
Box and suite holders will need to register through a dedicated website, with further details to be released closer to the tournament. Meanwhile, FIFA has also confirmed dynamic pricing for the general ticket sales phase, starting at $60, with costs fluctuating based on demand.
Mexico’s World Cup Preparations
Mexico City is set to host 13 matches across three cities — Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara — as the nation gears up for one of football’s biggest global events. The Azteca Stadium, already legendary for hosting historic matches, will once again be at the heart of World Cup history, welcoming fans from around the world while maintaining its unique VIP traditions.
