Kansas City, MO – Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Xavier Worthy has returned to practice after suffering a dislocated right shoulder in the team’s season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil last Friday. The 22-year-old’s return to the field marks a key step in his recovery as the Chiefs prepare for Sunday’s high-stakes rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Worthy had been sidelined in Wednesday’s practice session and wore a protective white sleeve with upper arm and shoulder padding during Thursday drills, signaling cautious optimism from the coaching staff. His availability for Sunday’s game, however, remains uncertain.
Early Season Setback
The injury occurred on the third offensive snap of the season opener when Worthy collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing pattern. Despite the setback, the young wideout has quickly begun his rehabilitation and is showing promising signs in practice.
Impressive Stats and Playoff Experience
A first-round draft pick out of Texas in 2024, Worthy made an immediate impact for the Chiefs last season. He finished with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, while also contributing 104 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. His postseason performance was equally impressive, hauling in 19 receptions for 287 yards and three touchdowns over three playoff games, including a standout eight-catch, 157-yard, two-touchdown performance in Super Bowl LIX against the Eagles, though Kansas City fell 40-22 in New Orleans.
Chiefs’ Offensive Outlook
Worthy’s recovery is crucial for Kansas City’s offensive strategy, as his combination of speed, agility, and big-play potential makes him a central target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Chiefs fans will be closely monitoring his status in the lead-up to the rematch against the defending Super Bowl champions.
With practice returns like Thursday’s, the hope is that Worthy can regain full strength in time to make a meaningful impact and provide a boost to the Chiefs’ receiving corps.
